Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I donate to you?
Great question, and one that we receive a lot. First, you should donate to us for many reasons. Every donation, no matter the amount, improves your community’s fire protection. The second reason to donate is to support our mission.
The mission of Rose Tree Fire Company, established in 1953, is to prevent and minimize the impact of fires, disasters and other emergency incidents within Upper Providence Township. Our services are focused on protecting the lives and property of our residents, merchants and visitors. We strive to maintain a high state of emergency preparedness and improve the quality of life in our community by identifying potential hazards and advocating the importance of safety and fire safe behaviors.
2. How often do you request donations?
Donations are always accepted. We mail a Fund Drive request letter to our residents and businesses annually. Typically, the letter will arrive in the first quarter of the year. We send a gentle reminder if we haven’t heard from you. We only ask for a donation by mail and never call your home.
3. Do you have any paid firefighters? Does the Fire Chief get paid?
No. All of our members (including the Fire Chief) are 100% volunteer.
4. What will you use my donation for?
Your donations are used to fund our operational budget and capital expenses. It helps to pay for utilities, building maintenance, vehicle repairs, portable equipment, protective gear and training, just to name a few. Since we do not charge for our services, our all-volunteer organization relies on your donations.
5. Aren’t my taxes used toward fire protection?
Upper Providence Township taxes are used to fund many public services, such as road maintenance, snow plowing, street signs, police department, fire protection, and other municipal services enjoyed by residents. The tax funds directed to fire protection go towards the installation and rental of fire hydrants, worker’s compensation premiums for the volunteer firefighters and a portion is donated from the township to the fire company’s general fund. Unfortunately, this amount is not enough to cover our costs. We rely on the financial support of our residents and businesses.
6. What goes on at the Fire Station between calls?
In between the responses to emergencies, our members train on numerous topics to refresh their skills or learn new ones. We want to be ready and prepared for the next emergency, which means that we need to inspect the equipment, maintain the vehicles and develop pre-fire plans. The building in which we operate is our “home”. Similar to your dwelling/home, it must be cleaned and maintained all year long. We need to make repairs, perform preventative maintenance, and pay our bills. Part of our mission is to advocate fire safety and emergency preparedness. We inform the community and area school children about fire safety the importance of safety and fire safe behaviors. There is always something to do.
7. How do I join Rose Tree Fire Company No. 1?
