SPRING AHEAD

 March 9, 2022

This Sunday, March 13th Daylight Savings time will begin. As you change your clock ahead one hour, please remember to also change your smoke detector batteries (and carbon monoxide detector too). Once you change the batteries, TEST the detector to be sure it is working. If your detector is 10 years old or older, it should be replaced.

Most people are surprised to learn that a fire can double in size every 30 seconds. The sound of the alarm will give you and your family those few extra seconds to get out of your home. Checking your detectors and changing the batteries is one of the simplest things you can do to protect your loved ones.

To learn more about how smoke detectors work and why they are so important, follow this link to the National Fire Protection Association.

For drill this week we continued our annual training with Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).

In teams of two, members went through an obstacle course including: forcing open both an inward and outward swinging door, conducting a search in black out conditions, raising and climbing ladders, working with tools, and advancing a hose line - all while wearing SCBA and monitoring air usage.

Come join the fun and learn more about the Rose Tree Fire Company at our station next or any Tuesday night at 7pm #RoseTreeFireCompany #volunteerfirefighter #SCBA #firetraining #wetalkingaboutpractice #delco

Do you still put wax paper in the masks to simulate smoke/limited vision?

For drill tonight Deputy Chief Cosgrove conducted the first of two classes for the crew conducting our annual Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) training.
The SCBA or “air packs” are used by the firefighters when they enter hazardous atmospheres like smoke filled buildings. Interested in joining or learning more stop by the station Tuesday nights at 7pm and meet the crew.

Rose Tree Fire Company

Last night, Firefighter Bill Campbell was recognized as Rose Tree Fire Company’s Firefighter of the Year for 2022 - an honor bestowed upon each year’s winner by vote of RTFC’s members.

Bill’s recognition is well earned and overdue. As a Life Member of RTFC, Bill has given more than 20 years of service to the fire company. Throughout that time he has been one of the crew’s most active and reliable members. In 2022 alone he answered more than 140 alarms. In between calls he is no less indispensable. Bill serves as Chairman of RTFC’s Trustees, and is responsible for the myriad of often thankless (but essential) tasks that keep our station running.

His commitment to public service has been a life long endeavor. Bill served for more than 30 years as a police officer in Upper Darby Police Department, and was a member of Highland Park Fire Company before moving to the Township and joining RTFC.

Please join us in congratulating Bill!
