The State Fire Commissioner has recognized Rose Tree Fire Company No. 1 as a Participating Fire Department of the Pennsylvania Fire Service Certification Program. This program was established in 1983 when a committee known as the Fire Service Certification Advisory Committee (FSCAC) was formed to explore the implementation of a voluntary certification program for firefighters. The purpose of this program is to identify and recognize emergency service personnel whose accomplishments in training and education meets or exceeds nationally recognized standards. The NFPA standards for Fire Service Professional Qualifications identify the minimum requirements for a person at a particular level of progression. A person certified to one of the Fire Service Professional levels will have demonstrated competency in the knowledge and skills required to perform at a particular level. The safety and service to the citizens and visitors of Upper Providence Township, surrounding communities and the entire Commonwealth will be enhanced by the professional competency attained through this certification process.

Decals are proudly displayed on the apparatus signifying this accomplishment.

Friday, January 1, 2010
-
The incident responses for the new year began for Station 73 with an automatic fire alarm at a local church at 11:37 am on January 1st. Then at 15:24 we were dispatched on the first alarm assignment to assist Company 53 (Broomall) on Andrews Rd. in Marple Twp. for a dwelling. Officers of Company 53 quickly arrived an reported a 2 1/2 story dwelling with heavy smoke showing from Division 2. Command was established.

Along with Co. 53 (Broomall), the balance of the alarm included Co. 41 (Newtown Square), 73 (Rose Tree), EMS 53 (Marple Twp. Ambulance Corps.) and Co. 14 (Swarthmore) as the RIT.

Quint 73 arrived as 53's engine crew was advancing an attack line and Ladder 41 was going to work. The crew from Quint 73 assisted with laddering the building, providing outside ventilation and also laddering the D-David side of the building to open up the gable side vent. Command requested that no crews go on the roof due to conditions.

When the outside work was completed, the crew of Engine 73 joined the Quint crew and went into Division 1 to open up ceilings and walls checking for extension. An additional line was brought in for our crews to use as fire was found to be extending above the ceiling.

The fire was quickly brought under control and crews continued to work overhauling and performing salvage work.
